La mandíbula y dentadura del lobo etíope están adaptadas para la caza de roedores, no depreda sobre presas de gran tamaño.
Ahora que vuelven a estar en boca de todos el estudio de los orígenes del perro y los últimos hallazgos, sus ancestros, dónde y cuándo fue domesticado, el lobo de África descubierto hace unos meses… Recordamos otro lobo muy especial, el más raro del mundo: el lobo de Etiopía.
Es pequeño (apenas 20 kilos), no caza en manada aunque los grupos familiares sí son cooperativos, prácticamente sólo se alimenta de roedores, casi se extingue a finales del siglo XX por una epidemia de rabia (que se ha repetido por última vez en 2009), su comportamiento social es único en los cánidos, y la población estimada es de sólo entre 360 y 420 ejemplares.
